Meerabai Temple is one of the most sacred places in Mathura-Vrindavan and is situated just off the road in a narrow street near Nidhivan at Vrindavan. It is a place where one can feel unconditional faith and love for the Lord Krishna.

Meerabai Temple is dedicated to Saint Meerabai who was an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna. The principal deity of this temple is Lord Krishna who is worshipped in the form of a ‘Shaligram Shila’, supposed to be the one worshipped by Meerabai herself.

History of Meerabai Temple

As per the legends, Saint Meerabai stayed at this very place while she was in Vrindavan from 1524 to 1539, after which she left for Dwarka where she merged into Lord Krishna’s idol at the RanChod Temple.

This temple was constructed by Rajdiwan of Bikaner, Thakur Ram Narain Bhatti in 1842 (Hindu Calendar : Vikram Samvat 1898) and has been taken care of by the descendants of the same family who hosted Meerabai way back in the 15th century.

As per the popular belief, Nidhi Van still witnesses Raas Leela of Shri Krishna and Radha Rani along with the gopis during night time and therefore, no one is allowed to stay within the premises at night.

2. Shah Ji Temple: On your visit to Meerabai Temple, you must check out Shah Ji temple which was built by a wealthy merchant Shah Kundan in 1876. This white colored temple showcases artistic workmanship, one of the fascinating architectural features of the temple are 15 feet high spiral pillars. The principal deity of the temple is Lord Krishna and Radha ji, fondly called "Chote Radha Raman" owing to their petite appearance.

Meerabai Temple Timings and Entry Fee

There is no entry fee to visit the Meerabai Temple and it is open for devotees from 5.00 am to 1.00 pm in the morning hours. In the evening, the temple is open from 4.00 pm till 8.45 pm.

Best Time to Visit the Meerabai Temple

Owing to the extreme weather conditions prevailing in Mathura during summer as well as winters, the most favorable time to visit Meerabai Temple is from October to December and from February to April when the temperature is in moderate range.

Meerabai temple is located approximately 12 kms from Mathura at Vrindavan and is easily accessible by hiring a private taxi from top car rental companies in Mathura-Vrindavan or taking an auto rickshaw.
