A religious place widely known for its architecture, Sneh Bihari Mandir is a famous Hindu temple in Vrindavan that offers spiritual vibes to all who are die-hard fans of Lord Krishna.

Located just 5-min away from the popular Banke Bihari Temple and in the heart of the town, the Sneh Bihari Mandir allows everyone to submerge their soul in the worship of the presiding deity and feel relaxed in a calm and serene environment. It’s a kind of place where you can disconnect yourself from the temporal life for sometime and forget all your worries; such is the aura of this temple.

History of Sneh Bihari Mandir, Vrindavan

There is an interesting and intriguing story behind the origin of Sneh Bihari Mandir. It is said that, about 250 years ago, a person named Snehilal Goswami used to work as a Seva Adhikari at Shri Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan with full devotion. His main job was to serve the Lord Krishna and he was quite passionate about it.

One day, while worshiping the presiding idol, he wished to have his own child who resembles Banke Bihari Ji. On the same night, Lord Krishna, with a purpose to fulfil his desire, came in his dream and asked him to find a dark-coloured cow in a cowshed. After seeing the cow, he instructed him to dig deep underneath her.

The next morning, Snehilal, as per his dream, went to the specific place and did everything that he was told to do. And to his surprise, he found an idol that was quite similar to Banke Bihari Ji. His happiness had no boundaries and he was on cloud nine after his desire got accomplished. And to show his gratitude towards Lord Krishna, he built a temple in the honour of the idol and named it as Shri Radhe Sneh Bihari Ji.

From then, Snehilal started looking after all the chores of the temple and continued to do so until he was laid to rest in peace. Before leaving this world, he gave the sole responsibility of the temple to his nephew, Shri Giridharlal Goswami Ji.

After Giridharlal Goswami Ji, Shri Mool Bihari Ji took the temple’s responsibility on his shoulder and began the work. Since the temple was small and was unable to accommodate a large number of visitors, he thought of constructing a new, grand temple. But God had some other plans. At a young age, 47, his soul left for the heavenly abode, leaving his body all alone on the earth.

To continue the legacy, his son, Shri Mridul Krishna Goswami Ji, came forward to handle all the things related to the temple and to make his father’s dream come true. He gave all his time and efforts and strived hard to manage everything smoothly. And finally, on 4th May 2003, he established the temple where, at present, thousands of devotees from different corners of the world come to seek the blessings of Sneh Bihari Ji every year.
